Norwegian Marriage Customs

When you are getting married in Scandinavia, it’s important to pay attention to some of the quirkier traditions. We asked bridal manager Mariella Gink to give us the dirt on some of Sweden’s distinctive norms.

Before relationships in Viking times, the bride may get a bath to cleanse herself and spiritually rinse apart her female. Then she would bounce into chilly fluids to depict the shift into woman. Her hair was likewise a big deal. She may weave it into complicated locks to depict her gender, and the more complicated her tresses were, the better it boded for the few. The grooms did wear a tunic and trousers made of wool or cloth. They had likewise bring their daggers.

In Norse society, it was common for couples to send each of their guests home with gifts. This is a custom that carries on today. It is common to see a gift register at Swedish weddings, but it’s not the rule to receive massive economic achievements, as most people can afford to buy themselves a manifest.

After the meeting, it’s time to honor! Swedish weddings are known for their long, expound dining celebrations. The evening might contain from eight to 12 speeches, checks of movies from the bachelor and bachelorette parties, games and songs. A friend of the couple is usually designated master of ceremonies to coordinate all the entertainment.

Another quirky Scandinavian wedding tradition swedish mailorder brides is that whenever the groom or bride leaves a room for any reason, other men will line up to kiss them. This is one of our favorite things to capture on camera as a photographer because it’s so funny!
